1.      Outdoor T&F 2001 TCD

Niall Linden (TCD) advised all captains to inform their athletes of the event website www.iv2001.com. He stated that the online entries were working very well and all colleges with the exception of UCD had submitted entries in this manner. With limited parking at Santry Stadium all were advised to park at Trinity grounds nearby.

With re: to Foot and Mouth disease Cyril Smyth stated there would be disinfectant mats present and asked all colleges to ensure their athletes entered via this route. There will be TCD/IUAA officials present to supervise disinfecting ritual.

Niall Linden told all present that event T-shirts would be on sale at a very reasonable 2 pounds with 50% going to charity. He also reminded all colleges of their responsibility to provide helpers for certain field events. Each college has been given written instructions as to their events.

Joe Rafferty (TCD) stated that Santry do not provide equipment for field events. Eric Brady commented that this was an IUAA responsibility. Michael Hillery informed the meeting that UL could provide shots and other equipment. Eric Brady asked TCD to talk with Michael Hillery with reference to this. Michael Hillery reminded captains that athletes should if possible bring their own equipment, especially Pole Vaults.

Niall Linden informed all captains that a strict checkin desk 1hour before events, and call room would be in operation during the championships, and that athletes must check-in in person.

Cyril Smyth informed the meeting that medal ceremonies will take place 30-45 minutes post-race providing there are no complaints made in this time.

Cyril White advised Niall Linden and fellow helpers to wear something fluorescent on the days of competition for ease of recognition. Niall Linden agreed that this was a good idea.

Michael Hillery congratulated TCD on the organisation so far and hoped the championships would be a resounding success. Niall Linden accepted this graciously.

2.      World Student Games

Eric Brady informed all that the original coach for the WSG team had to pull out and that Patsy McGonagle has been awarded the position. CUSAI standards are available on the IUAA website, as is Patsy McGonagle’s contact number. It was suggested that all captains should tell their athletes if they consider themselves to be in line for possible selection, they should contact Patsy McGonagle. Joe Rafferty stated that the 3000 S/C standard was not on the web. Cyril Smyth agreed to check this.

Eric Brady stated that he will contact Patsy to invite him to the track and field. Niall Linden said that Patsy had informed TCD that he would attend.

3.      Antrim Meeting

Eric Brady enquired whether their may be a problem with hosting the event in Antrim this year with the FMD situation. Paul Lynas (QUB) informed the meeting that track meetings were beginning next week in the north and that there should not be a problem with the IUAA team travelling. However, Paul Lynas commented that there may be a problem with the Scottish team traveling. QUB were asked to contact NI athletics to assess the current situation. Eric Brady then stated with regards selection for the IUAA team, – 1st place at the T&F as guaranteed selection, with the 2nd team place to be awarded at the discretion of the Team Managers, who will be announced at the T&F Championships. However, it is usual practice for 2nd place at the T&F to be awarded this place.

4.      AOB

Cyril Smyth thanked UCD for organising a successful cross-country and persevering through the difficulty generated by the postponement. Eric Brady wished to extend a personal thanks to Keir McNamara who took on the major responsibility of organising the Championships. This sentiment was echoed by several other members present.
